Configuring your Linux system is as simple as editing a text file. In fact, the Linux credo has always been "everything is a file". This means you don't have to mess with a registry or Active Directory as you would in a Windows operating system.
Your only requirement is that have administrative rights to the configuration file and the access to a Linux text editor such as Vim or Emacs.
You will have to be very careful when making configuration changes to your system. The wrong settings could cause your services to fail or in the worst case (as when you edit the boot configuration file), your Linux system could fail to boot up properly. Make sure that you read the instructions for the configuration file you are editing. If you can't find any instructions on your Linux system, seek help from the Internet and popular Linux discussion forums.
